‘It is poetic justice that, being social and sensitive beings,
We end up caressing our cell phones,
And scrolling ourselves
In our infinite catalog of varieties.
It’s the moment when we become music…’

Interface Bodies is a large artworks series composed by images, videos and physycal pieces that deals with the interfaces of UX and UIs of the main companies and platforms in the digital context,  such us Spotify playlists, Amazon chart banners, Google Maps routes or Pornhub, to load the representations of these empty body interfaces with content and intention.

_These digital patterns or «skins» serve here as textures that expand through the bodies of the works and through the space, integrating and making the spectator part of the artwork to recognice themselves in them.

_The proposal deeply on the dissolution of the physical and digital borders, the digital aesthetic as a fundamental part of our current imaginary and the overflow of the massive consumption of information.

The use of the UIs graphics of these applications is not random: they are a kind of cartography or mapping, each in its own space:

_Spotify has become the new Alexandria Library of music, a work of art in itself. Google Maps is the greatest landmark in the history of cartography, the dream of a sick man.

They are premeditated erotic and visceral, created surrealist scenes inspired by deepcore or hardcore aesthetics, and with influences ranging from Spanish baroque to the detailed scenes of Anime or Hentai, seeking a strong contrast with the aseptic aesthetics of the interface graphics. This series of works, which at times can be exuberant, overloaded or excessive, are nothing more than a consequence of the massive amount of data we process on a daily basis.

The images, with a post-punk cybernetic aesthetics, the works with the texture of spotify appear in suggestive positions, dancing, in festive situations, that remind us body contact sensations and the rituals that define us as social beings.

In the series of works Scrolling bodies and D4T4 R3L1CS, Jesu solidify with acidic irony the
contradictory feelings originated in our relationship with social media When I say solidify, I don’t mean
just representation but trying to catch these specific feelings double standards, attraction and rejection, individual or community, loss of identity, luxury and real life, adoration or envy, informative perversion and overexposure.

They serve for him as the perfect breeding ground where he finds the essential ingredients that weave the body of this series of works Extracting new readings about social codes originated on the internet, he deals with sexuality, gender and identity, and focuses on the exhibition of the image, superficiality vs intimacy, individual vs loss of identity, the vulgarity of the banal against poetry.

A Clash of continents.

A 3D model of two bodies in a suggestive position, presented from the point of view of a film camera. They appear with a new skin: the interface of the Google maps. Each one is a landscape, a territory. The piece remind us of body contact sensations and the rituals that define us as social beings. In this series of pieces, Jesu Moratiel uses the corporate image of the large multinationals in the digital age expanding, becoming the packaging that represents us.

Thus, he shows different 3D models often depersonalized, ranging from female and male bodies of all kinds to fantastic characters like aliens and demons or funny ones like Pokemon or Mario Bros video games.

Often in explicit positions, with a high sensual or sexual load, sometimes suggestive, sometimes absurd and funny, sometimes hieratic and others dancing, as if it were a Tiktok video.

But as it often happens, not everything is what it seems in this series of works with a premeditated intention to appear as a series of banal, pop images, he uses that superficial and distant face of contemporary society on social media, knowing the different prisms from which the viewer can read it, to hide in it with biting irony, almost poetic, what characterizes the people behind the Instagram or Tiktok profiles in a more intimate way a character, a personality, a mood, a sensitivity All symbolized through songs and musical playlists, sometimes Jesu Moratiel’s own, other times donated by musicians or people from his creative environment in any case, something much more human and intimate, they become a second skin to look at where some will only see excess in the postures of the bodies, others will find poetry in the great digital fabric of songs, playlists, and digital symbols that compose them.

A visual filigree where the ingredients of an Andy Warhol digital pop collapse with a more Baconian, visceral, and sensitive background, all filtered through a neo punk aesthetics
