JESU HAS BEEN MANIPULATING TECHNOLOGY OFFERINGS SINCE HE WAS A TEENAGER AND, SINCE THEN, HAS BEEN CARRYING THIS INCLINATION INTO HIS CREATIVE PRACTICE. BASED IN BARCELONA, MORATIEL DROPPED OUT OF MEDICAL SCHOOL TO STUDY FINE ARTS AND ENTERTAINED, FOR A FEW YEARS, A CAREER IN 3D MODELING AND VFX. HOWEVER, HE CONSIDERS HIMSELF A SELF-TAUGHT ARTIST, WHICH TRIAL AND ERROR PROCESS, MAKES EXPERIMENTS THE BEATING HEART OF HIS PRACTICE. ALL OF HIS IDEAS FIRST ORIGINATE IN A SKETCH BEFORE FINDING THEIR TRANSLATION INTO SOME SOFTWARE, OR MATERIAL.
INDEED, MORATIEL’S PRACTICE OPERATES AT THE INTERSETION DIGITAL OR PHYSICAL TECHNIQUES; CREATING A DIALOGUE BETWEEN INSTALLATION, SCULPTURE AND 3D ANIMATION. RECENTLY, MORATIEL HAS BEEN EXPLORING WAYS IN WHICH TO WORK COLLABORATIVELY THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT OF APPS, VIDEO GAMES, AND INTERACTIVE WORKS. ALSO CRITICAL OF SOME OF TECHNOLOGY’S LIMITS, MORATIEL ALSO EXPLORES THE IMPACT OF THEM ON OUR DAILY LIVES, SOCIAL LIVES, AND ECOSYSTEMS.
A TRUE MULTIMEDIA ARTIST, MORATIEL FOLLOWS SCIENTIFIC EVOLUTIONS AND SEEKS TO WORK WITH STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY. REGARDLESS OF THE FORM OF THE PROJECT, HIS WORK AIMS AT CREATING VISUALEXPERIENCES THAT TRIGGER SOME SORT OF BODILY OR EMOTIONAL REACTION IN THE VIEWER, SOMETIMESDRIFTING INTO THE UNCOMFORTABLE OR THE TROUBLESOME. HIS PIECES ARE PROVOCATIONS THAT SERVE AS PROMPTS TO SPARK A DISCUSSION. WITH BOTH PLAYFULNESS AND GRAVITY, MORATIEL EXAMINES SUBJECTS ON THE SPECTRUM OF LIFE AND DEATH—TACKLING SUBJECTS SUCH AS LOVE, SEXUALITY, SPIRITUALITY, AND SOCIETAL ISSUES. ALWAYS AT THE CENTER OF THE MOST AVANT-GARDE CONVERSATIONS, MORATIEL HAS BEEN WORKING WITH ROBOTICS AND 3D PRINTING.
